This canopy for the Volkshotel subtly plays with the hotel’s surroundings. The hotel, based in the former offices of dutch newspaper De Volkskrant, is situated at the Wibautstraat. This long boulevard is supposed to be Amsterdam’s green and inviting gateway into the city, but in reality turns out to be grey and windy.

Inspired by wind sculptures, this installation is set in motion by the breeze rushing through the avenue. Besides, its colourful design contrasts with the grey architecture, which draws attention to the hotel and gives arriving guests a warm welcome.
